IN MEMORY

James J. "Patsy" "Sonny" "Pop" Patrick of Havertown. The only son of the late Domenick and the late Anna Patrick, died on July 28, 2007 at the age of 76. Patsy and his wife Margaret (nee Malatesta) were life long-residents of Ardmore until 2002, when they moved to Havertown with their daughter Donna and her family.

After graduating from Lower Merion High School, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving during the Korean War. He returned to Ardmore after his honorable discharge and joined the Merion Fire Company of Ardmore as a full-time firefighter, replacing his Dad, who had passed away.

During his fire-fighting career, he received many citations and awards for bravery. In 1973, Lower Merion Township cited him for valor for one of his many "rescues". To this day, he remains the highest decorated firefighter in Lower Merion Township. He would later go on to serve two terms on the Fire Company's Board of Managers. Patsy was a "Life Fire Brigrade" member at the Merion F ire Company of Ardmore and a "Life Member" of the Bryn Mawr Fire Company.

In 1976, he retired from active fire-fighting and began his second career, as a maintenance employee at Suburban Square in Ardmore. During his time at the Square, he even volunteered to pinch hit for Santa Claus, filling in when the "Jolly Old Elf" could not make a scheduled Sunday appearance in 1987.

However fire-fighting was always close to his heart. In 1986, he was deputized to help the Merion Fire Company of Ardmore battle the fire which destroyed Kiddie City.

He left Suburban Square and then worked in Security at various locations; most recently at Harcum College, until illness caused him to finally retire this past June.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee Malatesta) Patrick, his daughter Donna Elberson and his son-in-law Jerry, 2 granddaughters, Megan and Lauren Elberson, all of Havertown. He is also survived by many cousins.

Visitation with Patsy's family will be from 6 to 9 PM, Friday August 3 and after 8:30 AM Saturday August 4 in the Funeral Home of John Stretch, E. Eagle Rd. & St. Denis Lane, Havertown. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Saturday August 4 in St. Colman's Church, Lancaster Ave. & Argyle Rd, Ardmore. Interment with full fire company honors will follow in St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown

In lieu of flowers donations in Patsy's/Sonny's memory may be made to the Merion Fire Co., 35 Greenfield Ave, Ardmore, Pa. 19003 or to the Bryn Mawr Fire Co., 901 W. Lancaster Ave, Bryn Mawr, Pa. 19010
