Lower Merion High School gas fumes
The Merion Fire Company of Ardmore was called for fumes of natural gas at the Lower Merion High School complex on Friday, February 11th. First arriving firefighters were met with a heavy gas odor in a two block area and complaints of gas inside the building. Command was established, the school was evacuated, PECO was called to the scene for a priority response. Firefighters with meters investigated the area. A malfunctioning relief valve was found in the rear of the building and the high pressure gas was shut down.

A play and wrestling match had to be canceled. Firefighters were on location for about 60 minutes.

MFCA and Cultural Care Au Pairs

On Tuesday the 8th of February, the Merion Fire Company hosted 45 au pairs from Europe, South America and Central America at the station for their annual fire safety training which is required for them to continue to work in the United States. Members of the company presented a class on fire safety in the home environment for the au pairs and then had them crawl through a smoke filled corridor on the second floor of the station.

After completion of the class the au pairs got a tour of truck room and the apparatus, which they seemed to enjoy.

The au pairs live and work for families in Lower Merion, Haverford Township and Radnor, and are in the United States for a maximum of two years. There employment is coordinated by Cultural Care Au Pairs which is an Ardmore based business.
