On Friday evening July 27, 2012 The Merion Fire Company was dispatched to 2231 North Stone Ridge Lane in the Villanova Section of Lower Merion Township to assist the Bryn Mawr Fire Company at house fire with a report of people possibly trapped. Chief Tom Hayden arrived on location in his personal vehicle and found a well involved kitchen fire with heavy smoke throughout the house and a 102 year old resident trapped in a rear bedroom with other residents trying to facilitate the removal of the resident. Chief Hayden removed the residents from the house and suffered smoke inhalation in the process.
The crew from Ladder 23 arrived and initiated an aggressive interior attack with a hand line while a crew from Engine 25 backed them up and began opening up the walls and ceilings around the kitchen.
