Hazardous Material Incident
At 14:07 hours on Thursday May 3rd, The Merion Fire Company was dispatched to the intersection of Lancaster and Woodside for a possible hazardous material incident from a spilled liquid in the intersection. First arriving crews found a bottle of liquid spilled in the intersection with fumes emanating from the liquid and the bottle. A hot zone was established and the Montgomery County Hazardous Material Response Team (Station 81) was requested to the scene. A full Incident Management System was established and the haz mat team established a plan to determine what the chemical was. Two entries were made by haz mat technicians, one for an initial assessment and a second to test the liquid. It was determined that the material was a type of acid and was neutralized with soda ash.
All crews cleared the scene at approximately 6:00 p.m.
