545 Greystone Rd Bala Cynwyd Fire

9:21 am

FM-34-1 arrived on scene with heavy smoke showing from a two story S/F/D. Command reported heavy fire in the rear. Requested the second alarm. Multiple hand lines in service. Command reported heavy fire through out and requested the third alarm. Due to deteriorating conditions inside the dwelling all companies were evacuated. Master streams were placed in service. The fourth alarm was request for manpower.

Gas Leak Building Evacuations

Members of the Merion Fire Company were called to 139 East Spring Ave for a gas leak in front of two commercial buildings.
The buildings were evacuated and monitored with meters while PECO capped the leak.

233 East Lancaster Smoke Condition

Shortly after 7:30 AM firefighters from Ardmore, Narberth, & Penn Wynne responded to 233 East Lancaster Ave in Wynnewood for a smoke condition on the upper floors.

Firefighters investigated and quickly handled the an electrical problem with the heater. Companies were back in service in 40 minutes.

Smoking Motor

Shortly before 5PM the Merion Fire Company assisted by station 26 was called to 233 East Lancaster Ave for a report of smoke in a 2nd floor bathroom. Firefighters found a smoking motor in the ceiling. It was removed and companies were back in service in 20 minutes.

Possible Gas leak

Ardmore firefighters investigated a report of a smell of gas in a couple of stores at the Ardmore West Shopping Center on Monday morning.

58 East Spring Building Fire

The Merion Fire Company along with the Bryn Mawr Fire Company responded to a building Fire at 58 East Spring Ave this morning shortly after 4AM. Police arrived with smoke showing and command requested the working fire response. An aggressive interior attack by firefighters controlled the fire quickly.

Station 25, 23, Engine 21, RIC and Air 24 & 313 responded

Hazardous Material Incident

At 14:07 hours on Thursday May 3rd, The Merion Fire Company was dispatched to the intersection of Lancaster and Woodside for a possible hazardous material incident from a spilled liquid in the intersection. First arriving crews found a bottle of liquid spilled in the intersection with fumes emanating from the liquid and the bottle. A hot zone was established and the Montgomery County Hazardous Material Response Team (Station 81) was requested to the scene. A full Incident Management System was established and the haz mat team established a plan to determine what the chemical was. Two entries were made by haz mat technicians, one for an initial assessment and a second to test the liquid. It was determined that the material was a type of acid and was neutralized with soda ash.

All crews cleared the scene at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Wires Wrapped around Tractor Trailer

The Merion Fire Company along with Rescue 22, Rescue 21 & 313 were dispatched to the rear of the Ardmore post office for a report of a man in a cab of a tractor trailer with wires wrapped around the truck shortly before 10:30PM.

Wires and a pole had come down on 13 mail trucks also. Companies along with PECO assessed the problem and removed the unhurt male victim.
