Lower Merion Township was in the international spotlight this weekend as Pope Francis visited Philadelphia to attend the World Meeting of Families. The Pontiff resided at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood during his stay. The Merion Fire Company of Ardmore along with Narberth and Penn Wynne / Overbrook Hills Fire Companies was staged at the seminary for fire protection along with multiple agencies for security measures.
The overnight crews on Saturday night were dispatched for an elevator fire in the adjoining building to where the Pontiff was staying. Crews were able to quickly knock down the electrical fire and then performed positive pressure ventilation to remove the smoke.
The final crew had the honor of meeting two guards from the Vatican Gendarmerie (Police) who requested that they get their pictures next to Ladder 25. MFC members showed them the new piece of apparatus and joined in a group photo.
It was a memorable event and honor to serve, protect and represent the Township of Lower Merion.
