William (Billy) Royster May 6, 1931 to July 14, 2020

07.17.2020 by Graham Fuller //

The Merion Fire Company of Ardmore announces with great sadness the loss of life member and friend William (Billy) Royster, on July 14, 2020 in Pensacola, FL.

Billy was a lifetime resident of Ardmore, PA until he moved to Florida after retirement.  He worked and retired from the Township of Lower Merion and was active with the Zion Baptist Church.

Billy was a dedicated volunteer fireman in Lower Merion Township for over 50 years.  He served with both the Merion Fire Company of Ardmore and the Union Fire Association of Bala Cynwyd. He earned Life Fire Brigade Membership at Ardmore and was awarded numerous citations for his service including 3 Township Unit citations.  During his time as a firefighter Billy was named the Merion Fire Company of Ardmore Firefighter of the year and was the Rotary Club of Ardmore Firefighter of the year in 1997.

Union Fire Association Chief Jim Horning said of him” Bill was a faithful, dedicated firefighter that was always there to help the community.”

Merion Fire Company Chief Tom Hayden remembers “Billy exemplified being a firefighter for our community and helped 100’s of people during their time of need. He always rode the first Engine and never was without a smile on his face.”
