3/20/2023 11:37 House Fire with Entrapment

03.21.2023 by Graham Fuller //

3/20/2023 11:37 – The Merion Fire Company and the Lower Merion building response were dispatched to assist with the full company to 618 Sussex Road in Wynnewood for a report of a house fire with confirmed entrapment.

FM34-1 and Ladder 21 arrived reporting heavy smoke and fire showing. Engine 25-1 arrived as the first in Engine with a crew of five. Assistant 25 arrived direct at the same time.

Our five members along with the Fire Marshal and a Penn Wynne FF went through the front door to search for the trapped victim. As some members began a left-hand search, others went to the top of the stairs to search. After seeing the members searching to the left Ardmore’s Deputy Chief started on the right-hand room. Chief 25 stayed in the vestibule to keep a count and an eye on the men. The FF from Penn Wynne held the fire off of all members while they searched. All members were searching without a hose line. One member announced he had hands on the victim and he and the Fire Marshall pulled the woman out of the room from the right to the vestibule where Chief 25 assisted with getting her out of the front door. Fire crews assisted in putting her on a backboard and rushing her to the ambulance down the street. All members inside backed out at this point due to the out-of-control fire conditions.

We commend all our firefighters from Engine 25-1, the Fire Marshal, and Penn Wynne for their teamwork in extreme fire conditions. It was this team effort that made the rescue possible and saved a woman’s life.

We thank all of the 15 Ardmore firefighters who responded today, You make our company proud!
