11/2/2026 1922 Building Fire

11/2/2026 | 1922 Hours – Engine 25-1 and Ladder 25 responded to 239 Crosshill Road in Penn Wynne to assist Station 21 with a reported chimney fire that was filling a home with smoke.

Upon arrival, firefighters from Stations 21 and 25 worked together to remove the burning wood from the fireplace, while Ladder 25’s crew raised the aerial ladder to the roof to inspect the chimney for any remaining fire or hazards.

🔥 Chimney Fire Safety Reminder: As temperatures drop and fireplace season begins, it’s important to make sure your chimney is ready for use!

  • Have your chimney inspected and cleaned annually by a qualified professional.
  • Burn only properly seasoned, dry firewood.
  • Never leave a fire unattended.
  • Make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.

If you suspect a chimney fire, evacuate your home and call 911 immediately.

11/2/2026 1810 Odor of Gas

11/2/2026 | 1810 Hours – Station 25 responded to 11 Cricket Avenue in Ardmore for a reported odor of natural gas in a second-floor apartment.

Upon arrival, Ardmore firefighters began investigating the source of the odor using specialized equipment, including multi-gas meters and natural gas detectors (sniffers).

Crews systematically checked the building and were able to trace the source of the gas odor to a stove in the restaurant located on the first floor.

Once the source was identified, firefighters ventilated the building to clear the accumulated gas.

🚒 Not every emergency involves flames and smoke! Our volunteers train to handle a wide variety of incidents and use specialized equipment to identify hazards that may not be immediately visible.

⚠️ Natural Gas Safety Reminder: If you smell natural gas, leave the building immediately, avoid operating electrical switches or anything that could create a spark, and call 911 from a safe location.

10/27/2026 0913 Building Fire

10/27/2026 | 0913 Hours – Station 25 responded to 170 Lakeside Road in Ardmore for a report of smoke on the third floor of an apartment building.

Units from Lower Merion Stations 26, 21, 23, 28, Narberth Ambulance (313), and the Fire Marshal’s Office were also dispatched as part of the building fire assignment.

First-arriving crews encountered heavy smoke conditions on the third floor and quickly stretched a 1¾-inch hose line in preparation for fire suppression operations.

As firefighters investigated the source of the smoke, they discovered that an elevator installation crew was welding components inside the elevator shaft, creating the smoke condition throughout the upper floor.

Once the source was identified and firefighters confirmed there was no active fire, crews ventilated the building to remove the accumulated smoke before returning to quarters.

Not every report of smoke turns out to be a working fire, but every call is treated as a potential emergency until our firefighters can determine the cause. The quick response and coordinated efforts of our Lower Merion fire companies ensure that we’re prepared when our community needs us. 🚒
