7/26/26 0600 Ben to the Shore Bike Tour

07.27.2026 by Graham Fuller //

7/26/2026 | 0600 Hours – Chief 25 and Utility 25 were proud to support the 2026 Ben to the Shore Bike Tour by transporting riders from Lower Merion to the starting line at the Ben Franklin Bridge.

This year’s LMFD/LMPD/DEMUYNCK/Royds/Setzer Team, made up of members from the Lower Merion Fire Department and Lower Merion Police Department, raised more than $33,000 in support of the Families Behind the Badge Children’s Foundation.

The riders then took on the impressive 65-mile journey from Philadelphia to Atlantic City, helping raise funds for an incredible cause. The Foundation provides financial assistance to the families of fallen or critically injured first responders, promotes positive relationships between first responders and the communities they serve, and offers mental health and wellness resources to first responders and their families.

Congratulations to everyone who rode, volunteered, donated, and supported this outstanding event. We are honored to play a small part in helping such an important mission succeed.

7/23/26 1308 Building Fire

07.23.2026 by Graham Fuller //

7/23/2026 | 1308 Hours – Station 25 responded to assist Station 23 on a reported basement fire on Lark Lane in Villanova.

First-arriving crews encountered smoke showing from the residence and requested the Working Fire Dispatch, bringing additional resources from across Lower Merion Township to the scene.

Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, locating and extinguishing the basement fire before it could spread further. Additional crews searched the structure, performed ventilation, assisted with overhaul operations, and supported command functions throughout the incident.

Incidents like this demonstrate the importance of a coordinated mutual aid response. Every company on scene played a critical role in bringing the fire under control safely and efficiently.

7/23/26 0444 Elevator Rescue

07.23.2026 by Graham Fuller //

7/23/2026 | 0444 Hours – Station 25 responded to St. James Place in Suburban Square for a report of a person trapped in an elevator.

What initially sounded like a routine elevator rescue quickly became a complex operation. Because of the early morning hour, firefighters first had to gain access to a locked professional building, determine which elevator was out of service and on what floor it was stopped, access the rooftop elevator control room, and gain entry to a secured second floor before rescue operations could begin.

Thanks to the training and experience of our volunteers, crews were able to work through each of these challenges, safely access the elevator, and successfully extricate the occupant.

Incidents like this are a great reminder that emergency calls are often far more complex than they first appear. Regular training prepares our members to solve problems, adapt to changing conditions, and safely assist those in need—no matter the obstacles.
